Email Marketing Is Dead?!

Email Marketing Is Dead?

How often have you heard that email marketing is dead or dying?  It seems that every time a new digital marketing widget, software, or dew-hicky comes out, it’s said that email marketing is a thing of the past.  However, it never happens, and since email marketing became ‘a thing’, it only seems like it’s continually growing with no end in sight.

Email marketing is still king and provides more bang for your buck among all marketing methods.  The hardest part is getting people to sign up for your email lists!  It’s honestly not as difficult as you may think.  It’s simply a matter of providing value to your readers, no matter what market you’re in.

Adding value to every online venue is key.  Your Facebook Business Page, Facebook Group, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, and most importantly your website, are critical venues where this value should be shared.  As well, your content needs to be consistent between all platforms, especially places like Google My Business, Yellow Pages, and local directories.

Your business name, taglines, phone numbers, email address, physical address, etc., all need to be consistent and this includes having this information in each of your email marketing campaigns.  You don’t want to confuse your potential customers, do you?

When it comes to the design of your email messages, you have a couple of options; 1. plain text messages or 2. customized HTML messages.  Many choose to go with plain text because it eliminates a barrier for many email clients, but it is a bit boring!  More and more are now using custom designs for their email messages, but you’ll want to be careful… it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture when designing your emails.

If you choose a custom design, you’ll want to match your brand and the feel of your website inside each message.  I’d recommend MailChimp, especially for newcomers to the email marketing realm.

MailChimp has done a great job of providing an email marketing solution that is easy to learn and implement in any market.  Also, MailChimp has been optimized for eCommerce and even offers new landing pages!  A website isn’t even necessary!  Check them out for yourself and let us know your thoughts.
